The essential reason for creating an RPDS is to improve quality of life and reduce poverty for traditional and riverine communities in or near the reserve. Accordingly, EBCF develops a series of social, environmental and economic initiatives with the surrounding communities, including:
Health and education programs
Strengthening families and associations
Management of sustainable (non-timber) forest products businesses
Introduction of new techniques and more sustainable technologies
Under the label “Nós pela Amazônia,” products created through EBCF’s sustainable management of natural and non-timber forest resources carry the guaranteed best and most sustainable production techniques available.
The extraction and processing of products such as cashew nuts, cocoa, rubber, açaí, oils (copaíba-jacaré, copaíba-marimaríe and copaíba-angelin) essences, and amino acids, among others, support the economic viability of the reserve while improving the quality of life and generating income for the communities.
